SXM Photography was created by photographer Alain M. Duzant, who was born and raised on the Caribbean island of Sint Maarten/Saint Martin. He spent most of his childhood playing on the unspoiled island, swimming, fishing and doing water sport activities that were 20 meters away from his doorsteps in Grand Case. From an early age, Alain developed an interest in nature and as he got older, beaches, sunsets, Caribbean architecture, wildlife and birds in particular, became a subject of endless fascination, due to the bright and vivid colours of the Caribbean. 

Alain’s venture into bird and animal photography began when his cousin bought him his first camera, a Pentax ME, while attending school in Miami. He became the "designated" photographer at school and had access to the darkrooms, where the images were developed on paper in black & white.

Alain developed a more serious interest in photography in 2011, when he moved back to Saint Martin after spending 11 years in Spain. Coming back to the island opened up his eyes once more to the beauty of the Caribbean. His interest and fascination with photography, wildlife and the unspoiled nature of the island, led him to upgrade his Pentax equipment and his rediscovery trips began evolving into photo trips and projects. 

Alain’s passion for capturing his beloved island on camera continued to grow and he spent most of his time working on digital photography and sharing the beauty of Sint Maarten/Saint Martin with his followers on Facebook and Instagram. 

On September 18, 2017, two weeks after Hurricane Irma ravaged the island, Alain passed away unexpectedly at the age of 55. His wife Alexandra and his daughter Veronica, who both share the same love for photography and the island, decided to carry on his legacy and continue with SXM Photography in Alain’s memory.
